In today’s society it seems like everyone is focused on what they look like. Just look at the shows you watch on TV: America’s Next Top Model, The Biggest Loser. The judges even criticize contestant’s appearances on American Idol, The Voice, and Dancing with the Stars. Why do people put so much value on appearance? Seems silly, huh? I mean, what really matters is what’s on the inside. You know, You!
So how do you stand up to the pressure? By focusing on what makes us all different instead of trying to look like somebody else. You are beautiful – not for what you look like, but for who you are. Never let anyone tell you differently. It’s okay if your hair is straight or if it’s curly. It’s okay if you’re shorter than your classmates or taller. It’s okay if you are a fast runner or a slow walker. None of those things are truly important. Instead, you need to focus on what makes you You. What are you most proud of? What do you like about yourself? Those are the things that matter. Those are the things you should be about and stand up for.
And next time you see someone else picking on someone for what they look like, stand up for them too. We all have good qualities and we’re all a little bit different. It’s no big deal. In fact, it’s a good thing. Life would be pretty boring if we were all the same. So take some time every day to celebrate what makes you You. And don’t be afraid to tell other people all about it.
