This week in GOTR we’re talking about media influence. As you’ll learn from your coaches, not everything you see is real. And a lot of it can be harmful if you start to compare yourself to what you see on TV or in magazines.
So here’s your homework for the week:
1) Figure out how much time you spend each week watching television, movies, listening to music, playing on the computer (schoolwork doesn’t count), reading non-school-related books and magazines
2) Decide whether those things are a good use of your time. What would you do with your time if you weren’t watching TV or reading magazines?
3) Go for one whole day without any media exposure (except what is necessary for schoolwork). How does it feel when you do that?
What did you learn this week? Does media play a big role in your life? Should it?
